“When you spend your life in thrall to a monster you find yourself trying to make monstrous things somehow bearable.”
Helena is a woman on a mission. Since the death of her high-flying husband, she has dedicated herself to reclaiming his legacy. And her hard work is about to pay off, with a new children’s hospital bearing his name on the brink of opening.
But when their son Oz returns to the family home for the grand unveiling, he has ambitions of his own. Ambitions that threaten to unravel their family’s most tightly kept secrets.
Gary Owen’s new play, a contemporary reimagining of Ibsen’s classic, is directed by Artistic Director Rachel O’Riordan, reuniting the team behind the critically acclaimed Iphigenia in Splott, Romeo and Julie and Killology.
“Perfect theatre. Everyone should see this shattering modern classic” Guardian on Iphigenia in Splott

Amazing show.
The acting was absolutely superb. Loved the use of the candles, mirrors and lush carpet. A brilliant production.
Got the £7 standing seats - found it incredibly funny and entertaining. Great value for money
Great play and amazing cast! Loved it!
Excellent production.
The play was awful, all exposition, nothing actually happened until the last moment. Why would we care about these characters? Not that I could see the perfectly good actors in the candlelight that lit no faces , at least from the upstairs seats. Thank goodness it was short.
A marvellous atmospheric telling of Ibsens best. Don't miss!
Okay effort at least by Mrs. Alving and the Priest. Bench seating excruciatingly painful for one's back.
Very dark plot but well executed. Great venue!
Too stoic. The acting seemed exaggerated and at the same time it didn’t draw you in
This was a good play to watch, storyline was interesting and at times quite funny. Very entertaining play, the theatre is beautiful, only problem is that the seats are not very comfortable and it was very tricky to get to my seat. Don’t purchase seat A11 at the upper gallery
The Sam Wanamaker is one of the most atmospheric and intimate theatres in the world. Ibsen's "Ghosts" is a tight, claustrophobic masterpiece perfectly suited to the format. Only lit by candles!
