“The Pillowman is a spellbinding stunner of a play.” Ben Brantley, New York Times
In a totalitarian state a writer is questioned by the authorities about a spate of murders that bear similarities to her short stories. Is this life imitating art or something more sinister? This black comedy widely regarded as one of the greatest plays of the past 25 years, examines the role of the artist in society and asks what price do we pay for freedom of expression.
With an all-star cast including Lily Allen, Steve Pemberton, Paul Kaye, and Matthew Tennyson, Matthew Dunster directs the first major revival of Martin McDonagh’s electrifying and savagely funny Olivier award-winning play, The Pillowman at the intimate Duke of York’s Theatre for a strictly limited season.

Fantastic production brilliantly acted. Wonderful theatre.
Wow! One of the best theatre productions I've ever seen!
Very dark play in terms of subject matter but amazingly countered with razor sharp, savage humour. Superb script, brilliantly delivered by a fantastic cast.
Brilliant show with superb acting. Lovely talented cast. Best thing I have seen in ages. Loved it. X
It was an amazing performance. I have a perfect seat J14 . The whole experience was superb ! Lolo Allen is an amazing performer !
Was bad from start to finish no concept to the play. Was supposed to be a special anniversary present to my wife
A dark, twisted and psychologically disturbing play…and utterly brilliant. Steve Pemberton and Paul Kaye play their parts to absolute perfection and Lily Allen is simply a tour de force in her role. I will never forget the name Katurian or these three mesmerising performances. Sublime.
A dark story but captivates you all the way through
Clever script, engaging from the first few seconds, funny, superb acting.
I’m surprised the show had so much insinuation of violence toward kids with 2 young kids acting night after night - surely this will have an impact on their young minds/psyche for the rest of their lives! No matter the therapy they receive!! Acting was ok. Too much unnecessary use of foul language.
Excellent. Excellent. Excellent.
An absolutely horrifying tale, but wonderfully written and acted, with some much needed comedy thrown in. Fabulous performances from all
